Indie Band Advertising Campaign
You are required to produce a campaign for the tour and single release of one of the bands provided. The chosen bands are local indie artists who are rising to fame through a new album or EP.
You need to choose a band and an associated song.
You then need to design a campaign that includes a variety of promotional events and advertisements for the band. (Appearances, Interviews, Posters, Social Media Campaigns, Banner Adverts, Merchandise, Teaser/Promo Videos or Gifs, Music Videos)
As well as planning the campaign, in this unit, you will also make the poster for the release of the Single that will go in magazines, 1 online banner ad and 1 t-shirt design.
All these bands have varying success but are looking to increase awareness go beyond their target audience and ultimately get recognised and 'get signed', by industry professionals.
The campaign should begin after Xmas 2023 with some of the suggested advertisements/events, (promoting the band and the song release), and finish just before festival season 2024 with the release of a Music Video. Evaluation
According to the brief, the poster aims to spread awareness of the band and their new song, and therefore a typical poster convention helps do this by putting down the band's social media profiles in a hyperlinked format, which I've included in my print poster. The name of the band is a convention used with our posters. By doing this it shows the audience who our campaign is promoting, it therefore encourages the audience to go research and find out more about the band. The name of the song is another code and convention used.
The whole point of this campaign is to promote Wave Chase's new song, so adding the title of the song to the poster helps create publicity for the new song. Code and conventions of branding are frequently used within band posters. Some bands do this by using a logo, but with our campaign, branding is created through the use of colour. Similar colour schemes of pink blue and purple tones are in all the products. Straight to the point, this is a poster code used within our campaign posters. Being straight to the point reduces the chance of the audience getting distracted or not understanding the point, or what the poster is trying to promote.
The poster which I made does a good job of following the brief and acting as advertising material for Wave Chase so that they will get more recognition and people will find out about his new song and potentially other music which he has already released and will release in the future. The main reason for this is the fact that the poster is very eye-catching so people will pay attention to the poster when they see it. This means no matter where it is (on social media or placed around busy places) people will stop and find out what it is advertising. This is done by adding a colour scheme to the poster so that it looks aesthetically pleasing using mainly black, blue and purple colours which are also the main colours. This can be seen in many other posters which I researched where a colour scheme has been used to interest people. I also made sure to include smoky streaks moving around the subject along with retro titles in the poster as this is what is used in the promotional video to further connect the two pieces. I also made sure to include only the best and most professional-looking photos from the photography shoot which we had to ensure that the poster looked as good as possible.
The promotional teaser video meets the typical codes and conventions of online/digital video promotional advertising through the style of the poster, modern-day music videos are seen to have a minimal appearance and format, and I have made sure the assets blend in and relate with one other. Lastly, I have used many filter effects, to blend the included graphics.
